Due to the high potential of physical pleasure, sex takes an important part in the modern culture. The people’s desire for love and affection is a subject of deep observations and has a fundamental role in the life of everybody. The Western world, dominated by Christianity and it’s stress on high moral values, profoundly changed the sex culture and put limits on the human passion for lovemaking for thousands of years. A brief check-up of history reveals that for a long time sexual intercourse has been deified and openly celebrated in festivals all over the globe. This article highlights 5 massive events related to sex that impressed me and definitely transformed my outlook on the culture of some countries.

Pon Festival of Indonesia

In Indonesia lives the world’s populous Muslims majority, as approximately 205 million Indonesians profess Islam. In total contradiction to the strict rules regarding adultery described in Quran, thousands of people participate in the Pon festival. The tradition involves sexual intercourse between strangers, even if they are already married.

The event takes a place on Mount Kemukus. The participants believe that by having sex they will ensure good luck and prosperity in life. Of course, to accomplish the ritual, the pilgrims should take part in all 7 occasions during the year.

The beginning of this religious practice is considered the secret affair between Prince Pangeran Samudro and his mother-in-law Nyai Ontrowulan, who consumed their love on the peak of the mountain.

Shinto Kanamara Matsuri is a Japanese festival where the male penis is the central theme. Literally translated into English, the name means “Festival of the Steel Phallus”.

The legend has it that a mean, cruel, sharp-toothed demon hid inside the vagina of a young woman. The evil creature fell in love with the woman and bit off the penises of two young men on their wedding nights. Being afraid of the bloody incidents, the woman asked for help a blacksmith, who hammered out an iron cock to break the demon’s teeth. The idea of the craftsman worked: the demon lost its choppers, many young men were saved and the iron penis came to be glorified. The celebration of the legend is organized in Kawasaki on every first Sunday of April and has a more touristic than religious direction.

According to the organizers “Sexpo is not just about sex, it’s about fun and the celebration of all lifestyles and sexualities.” Of course, the reality is way different. Sexpo is about nothing but sex. It’s a sex toys galore, with attractions like dancing porn stars or a performer painting portraits with his penis. It’s a world-wide festival and it attracts people from all over the globe. This year, the organizers in Sydney are expecting 50,000 to attend. In London and Johannesburg, the other hosts of the event, the expectations are lower, but probably thousands of people will enjoy the atmosphere of this unique exhibition.

Kutemajrvi Sex

Kutemajrvi Sex Festival is the most intellectual festival that celebrates human sex and eroticism. With seminars on sex and sexuality by world-renowned experts, sex-toy expos and adult film stars filling the scenic venue. The festival also involves live music, exotic dancers and a beauty parade called the ‘Aphrodite’ competition – in which the contenders, usually but not necessary, are naked. This festival is held once a year and brings together thousands of attendants to the remote little town of Kangasniemi in Finland.

Swingfields

Swingfields is the largest sex festival for swingers. The festival is held on private land in the UK and the location is only sent to ticket holders via a secure link. Inside, the participants can enjoy workshops, live demos, a themed evening of dress up and let their imagination run wild. There’s even an option to book a 12

There is a hot tub, jelly wrestling, and the evening entertainment comes with its own disclaimer: ‘Be warned, the main entertainment in the evenings when our bands are playing is the most hedonistic atmosphere,’- says Stuart Wilson, the owner of the festival.

Christmas is soon, good presents are always welcome, so think about purchasing a ticket or two!
